The Completion of the Great Commission
God gave John a vision of a glorious sight in heaven. He showed him a multitude of people too large to count standing before the throne of God worshiping the Father and the Lamb. The greatest part of this vision is that this crowd included people from every nation, tribe, people, and tongue, or language. (Revelation 7:9,10) This is so significant because of Christ's command to His disciples to make disciples of all of these groups. (Matthew 28:19,20) Therefore, we see that God did not fail in His desire to see all people groups represented in Heaven before His throne. However, I wonder how this happened?
Today, we are praying and pursuing our task of completing the Great Commission, but we are far from finished. There are thousands of people groups who have never even heard the name of Jesus. Is the church going to reach these people? The jury is still out. We do not know. It could be that these groups are reached after the church is taken up in the Rapture, and God sends out 144,000 witnesses to scour the earth sharing the Gospel. It could be from the testimony of the Two Witnesses who have a great ministry during the Tribulation time. We won't know until we get to Heaven.
My heart breaks to think of what it will be like if we fail our Lord, and we do not fulfill His commission to us. When we stand before the Lord in the Judgment, we will have to hear His disappointment in us. I pray that we will redouble our efforts in prayer, giving, and going, so we can see a smile on His face, instead. What will it be for you and your church?
Tomorrow, I intend to read Revelation 9-11.
