Lacking Food and Water
Most people in America can't fathom a time when the supply of food and water would become so low that there would be a fear of running out. In Ezekiel's time this happened in Jerusalem. God caused it to happen because of their iniquity or sins. (Ezekiel 4:16,17) We could face the same situation in the USA, if God chooses to punish our sins in that way.
Ezekiel was told by God to announce to the people that God was going to cut off the supply of bread, which was the staple food of the people. Also, the drinking water would begin to run out, as well. This led to a time when people had to weigh out their bread and wonder if it would run out before the supply was replenished. The same was true for the drinking water. This caused a very stressful time, so that people were always on edge with each other. Therefore, the hunger, thirst, and the stress were the judgment of God on them for their sins against Him. The people were wasting away slowly, because of their refusal to confess their sins and repent.
God has not changed and the sins of America are even worse than the sins of Judah, so this could happen to us in America, if we don't turn to the Lord with sincere hearts of confession and repentance.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 6-8.
