The Popularity of Pride
We live in a time when most people admire proud people, especially those in public life. They like their pride, because they think it shows a healthy self-confidence and power to get things done. However, the problem with pride is that God brings down the proud, no matter how high and mighty they are. (Jeremiah 49:16) God told Jeremiah to deliver this message to the people of his day, but we need it, too.
If people are rich or strong, they get a fierceness about them that causes them to attack others verbally, or even physically. If they win some of the battles, they get more fierce. Eventually, they cross the line, because of their pride, and they are brought down. Also, people who live very wealthy lives feel superior to other people. They live lofty lives, and they feel invincible since they have such a high lifestyle. They may think they are eagles, but God can and will bring them down with the turkeys at the proper time.
Please, don't get sucked into the admiration of the proud. Do not desire to be like them. Do not think they can accomplish great things on their own because of their power or money. God is the source of all we have. He can bring anyone down and cause them to fail. Why would He do that? He wants everyone to know He is Lord and to bow down to Him, not to the proud people of this world. Then, He can exalt all of the humble people and give them the abundant life He designed for us in Christ.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 50-52.
