Teaching the Whole Country God's Law

Jehoshaphat was a righteous king, who followed the Lord well. He was wise in how He dealt with people, except in his relationship with evil king Ahab of Israel. One of the wisest things he did was to send his leaders to all of the cities of Judah to teach the people the Law of God. (II Chronicles 17:7,9) Let's consider why this was such a wise thing to do.

God's Law is perfect, and it restores the souls of those who know it and follow it. (Psalm 19:7-11) It never hurts anyone to hear God's Law, whether they are believers or not. People need to be confronted by the truth. Then, they have the seed of God's will planted in their hearts, and the Holy Spirit can water it, so it might come to bear fruit in the lives. If the seed of God's Word is not there, bearing fruit is very improbable.

When we teach God's Law as the standard for everyone, then people know there is an absolute authority, and it comes from God, who has all authority in heaven and on earth. If people do not believe in absolutes, they are open to doing anything they think is right. The problem is that whatever seems right to people leads to destruction and death. (Proverbs 14:12) If we have any hope of saving people from destruction, it comes by sharing the Word of God with them and teaching them the laws of the Lord.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 19-21.
