A Covenant to Fully Seek the Lord

What kind of covenants have you made with God? I don't think a lot of believers use the word "covenant" much anymore, but it is a good Biblical word. It means an agreement, a spiritual contract. Just like buying a house or a car, we promise God we will do certain things, and He does His part to fulfill the covenant, too. Of course, He is always faithful. The people of Judah made a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all of their heart and all of their soul. (II Chronicles 15:12) God honored that covenant when they kept their commitment, and He was found by them. (II Chronicles 15:15) The same will be true for us today.

God is not looking for half-hearted commitment. He never makes that kind of commitment to us, and He does not recognize or reward us when we have that type of covenant with Him. He requires giving our all to Him. Jesus gave His all on the Cross to save us. Then, we are saved by entering the New Covenant, when we make the commitment to repent of our sins, trust Jesus fully as our Savior who died for us, and surrender completely to Him as Lord of our lives. Therefore, if we are Christians, we have entered that covenant with the Lord. Yes, none of us are perfect, and He knows that, but are we keeping our part of the New Covenant?

If we are keeping the New Covenant with Jesus Christ for our salvation, it should be nothing to make the covenant Judah made. Why would we not commit to seeking the Lord with all of our heart and all of our soul? Well, it could be that we think, trust is not an every day trust, but only a one time trust in Jesus. That is not living faith. We need to fully trust Jesus daily from the day we enter the New Covenant. (Luke 9:23) Then, we need to covenant with the Lord to seek Him fully every day, so He will reveal Himself to us, and we can follow closely all the way to heaven.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 16-18.
