Totally Dedicated to the Lord

Samson was a unique person. He was totally dedicated to the Lord as a Nazarite from the day of his conception, and it was to last all of his life. (Judges 13:7,24) Most of the time adults took the Nazarite vow and kept it for a short period of time to show their dedication to God. This explains why God blessed him even in his imperfection.

God told Samson's mother not to drink wine or eat unclean food even before the baby was conceived, so that he would not ever have any wine in his body. Also, his parents were commanded never to cut his hair. These two things set him apart from his youth. When he was grown, Samson possessed great physical strength that was tied to his dedication to the Lord. However, when he told the source of his strength, and his hair was cut, his strength left him, so that he was like any other man. Just think how God could have used Samson if he had been fully committed to God all of his days on top of being dedicated to God.

I believe this is a picture of how all of the children of believers should be dedicated to God. We should commit ourselves fully to the Lord, as parents, even before the first child is conceived. We should pray and dedicate each child to the Lord. Then, we should teach each child to be faithful to the Lord's commands and grow strong in Him, so that they have supernatural strength from God, and they are unique among their friends. Just think what could be achieved by a child raised in this way from the womb, if he or she would remain faithful to God until death.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 14-16.
