Claiming Glory For Ourselves
God deserves all of the glory or the credit for everything good and right that happens in this world and in our lives. One of the worst sins we can commit is to try to claim the glory for ourselves when something good happens. God taught this lesson to Israel in the days of Gideon. (Judges 7:2) We need to make sure we never forget it ourselves.
God caused Gideon to reduce the army of Israel to 300 men, even though they were going against a huge enemy army. God knew human nature. He knew that if they went to battle with 10,000 men, it would be easy for pride to rise in their hearts, and they would claim they won the victory in their own strength. That would be a blatant sin against God, because we can do nothing in and of ourselves. He is the one who gives us breath and strength. If we win any victories or accomplish anything, it is because of His goodness and grace. If we try to claim the glory, it is an insult to Almighty God, and it gives others the wrong impression of Him. Instead, we should give God glory for everything good that happens, knowing He is the Sovereign King of the universe, who is All-wise and All-loving so He always does the right thing in the right way.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 8-10.
