Authentic Worship
Christmas is all about worshiping God for sending His Only-begotten Son. The Angels worshipped. The shepherds came to worship Him, and so did the Wise Men. I am sure Mary and Joseph were in awe and in an attitude of worship, too. However, not everyone understands authentic worship. We need to learn from Biblical examples, so our worship can be worthy of our Awesome God. (Revelation 4:10,11) Let's see how they worship in heaven, so we can do the same things here.
The twenty-four elders in heaven represent all believers of the Old Covenant (12 tribes of Israel) and the New Covenant (12 disciples of Jeaus). They are angels who are constantly worshiping God by bowing down before the Lord. They fall on their knees or on their faces to show their submission to His authority. This is a central part of their worship of the One who lives forever.
They also cast their crowns before His throne as they fall down. This is a way of saying that they do not deserve any credit for their rewards, because they were only able to serve God by His power, not their own.
As they worship physically bowing down and casting their crowns before God, they confess that He is worthy of glory, honor, and power, because He is the Creator of all things. This shows the importance of confessing the truth and praising God in our worship, whether in song or the spoken word.
This picture of authentic worship depicts a totally uninhibited display of genuine submission, thanksgiving, and praise for the One True God who is so worthy of all worship. I believe we should be totally engaged in authentic worship in a similar way every Lord's Day and each day in between. He deserves our authentic worship.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Revelation 5-7.
