Keeping Your Soul From Trouble
There are many things that can cause trouble for our soul. That is why we need to know what to guard against, so we can stop those troubles from happening. One of the main things which we need to guard is our tongue. (Proverbs 21:23) Just think of how many times you have been hurt by something you said.
The tongue is hard to control. In fact, it is impossible for a human being to control his own tongue without the help of God. The book of James makes that perfectly clear. However, when we decide to stop allowing our tongues to get the best of us, and we turn our tongues over to God for His direction, we can stop from saying those things that hurt our soul. Believe me, it is worth whatever it takes to allow God to take control of your tongue.
The soul is our mind, will, and emotions. Think of how many times, we say things that bring anguish to our minds. We spread gossip or tell lies, and then, later, we second guess ourselves as to why we would be so foolish. Our will is troubled by the tongue, when we say things we do not intend to do, or we make wrong decisions. Also, our emotions are wrecked by things we say, when we hurt people we love, or we make other people mad who take vengeance on us. If we guard our tongues, we have solved those troubles and many more. I would highly recommend it to all of us, just like Solomon did.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 22-25.
