Praising God Through the Storms of Life
God knows what He is doing, even when we can't see the ultimate end of all He is doing, and we do not understand why He is doing it. Job is a great example of this truth, and he shows us that we should praise God through the storms because that is true. Job was a righteous man, who hated evil. God had made him very wealthy, so that he was the greatest man of all the East. He had seven sons and three daughters, as well as many servants. In one day God allowed Satan to take away all his family and his possessions. It was then Job still blessed the name of the Lord.(Job 1:21,22) We need to consider how he could bless the Lord with all that suddenly coming on him.
To put it succinctly, Job trusted God explicitly. Job brought nothing into the world as a newborn baby. He knew that one day he would take nothing out of this world with him. He was nothing before the Almighty God, who was All-wise and All-loving. Therefore, he was sure that whatever God allowed to happen or whatever God did directly was the right thing. That is why He still deserved for Job to bless Him in the day of His distress. It is very difficult for most believers to get to that kind of trust in God, but when we do, we can praise God in the storm.
You may or may not remember what happened the day my little sister died at 24 years of age, but I have shared it before. They gathered my family into a small room. In the sad silence my father said, "Stan, would you pray and thank God for giving us Jan for as long as we had her." We all bowed in prayer to thank God for his gift of my sister. I have never questioned my father's trust of the Lord since that day. His request spoke volumes about Who he trusted. Of course, my mom was the same way. In their great grief there was no blaming God, but there was thanksgiving. What a blessing to be able to praise God in the storm.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 2-4.
