Profaning The Sabbath

The Sabbath Day is a special day set aside for our good from the very time of creation. God worked 6 days creating the universe. Then, He rested on the seventh day to show us we need one day a week set aside for Him that is not like any other day, but it is special. The Israelites started profaning the Sabbath while Nehemiah returned to Persia by making it a normal shopping day. Upon his return he had to confront them about their sin.(Nehemiah 13:17) We need to be careful that we do not profane the Sabbath ourselves.

The Sabbath day for Christians is Sunday, since Jesus rose again the first day of the week. We set it aside to honor Him as Lord, because the resurrection proved that once and for all. Now we are to use it for our benefit to spend time in worship and rest. The word "profane" means ordinary or common. Any time we treat the Sabbath as a regular day, we profane it, because we make it just like any other day. Of course, some believers have to work on Sunday, because of their job, but we should still do something to honor the Lord and worship Him on that day. We all need one day to refocus on the Lord, or we will drift away from Him and His priorities for our lives.

I pray that each of us will have a refreshing day worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ with fellow Christians, and that we will rest from the regular activities of the week. I believe God will bless us, if we are faithful in this way.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Esther 3-5.
