Possessing What God Has Given
Joshua led Israel to subdue the land of Canaan by defeating the kings of the land and their armies. However, that was only part of the process of taking the land. Then, each tribe needed to go and to take possession of their inheritance. No one else could do it for them. They had to go and drive out the rest of the enemies, settle in the land, and make it into their home. Joshua asked them how long they were going to neglect to possess the land that the Lord had given them.(Joshua 18:3) We could ask a similar question to many Christians. How long will we neglect to possess all that the Lord has given us?
Having our sins forgiven is the beginning of salvation, not the end. Once we are saved, we are to grow to become like Jesus and to live a life of victory. God has set aside every spiritual blessing we need to do just that, but the blessings are in the "heavenly places."(Ephesians 1:3) What does that mean? They are in the spiritual realm waiting for us to be ready and willing to appropriate them into our lives. God will supply them to us, when we go forward to attack our enemies and become all we can be. If we just become spiritually lazy, and we are content to remain spiritually immature, then, we do not go forward to possess all that God has for us. We do not defeat the enemies, and we do not possess our spiritual blessings that God has given us. I pray that we will not neglect to possess all that God has given us, but we will be more than conquerors through Christ and the power of the Spirit.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 21-23.
