Seeking God

We know that God comes seeking us first. None of us would seek after God unless His Spirit drew us to Him, but then, we have the choice to trust Him or not. Once we trust Him, we begin to seek Him, because we have a love relationship with God that is real and personal, as Henry Blackaby would say.(Psalm 63:1) How do you seek after God? Besides trusting Christ as our Lord and Savior, this is the most important thing we do, so we better do it right. David gave us some great insights.

We must seek God "early." Let me translate that. It means first, before anything or anyone else. It means early in the day, each day. It means when we are fresh, we give Him the first of our day and ourselves, not the left-overs. He is Lord of all or not Lord at all.

We thirst for God with all of our soul. I believe, the soul consists of our mind, will, and emotions. Therefore, we must thirst for knowledge of Him. We must thirst to know His will and to do it. We must thirst to feel what He feels. Isn't that part of loving someone? Don't we want to know about them and to know them fully? Don't we want to do what pleases them? Don't we want to feel what they feel?

Finally, we must seek the Lord as our life, because He is life to us. Just like water to a plant in a land with no water, we must yearn for Him to quench our thirst and grow us. There is no other source who can do that.

Then, we will fully experience God. Is that how you will seek Him?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 64-66.
