Sin's Slippery Slope

I have some good news and some bad news about sin. Let me give you the bad news first. Once we decide to give in to sin, we sin more and more. It is a slippery slope. That is what happened to King Amon, Manasseh's son.(II Chronicles 33:23) One lie grows into two or three lies. If we miss church one week, then it becomes two or three weeks. When we cheat, it gets easier to cheat again and again. Sin's slippery slope takes many people all the way to destruction.

The good news is that there is a way to stop sin's slippery slope. We have to humble ourselves before the Lord. We have to admit our sin and that we are unable to stop sinning in our own power. We have to turn away from the sin and our way of doing things, so that we put the Lord first and do what He wants us to do. Part of humbling ourselves is trusting the Lord and not ourselves. That is what King Manasseh did near the end of his life. The remarkable thing is that he was the most sinful king of all the kings of Judah. That shows us that anyone can repent and humble themselves before the Lord. That is great news.

The key is that we have to be willing to listen to God and take that step of humility and faith. It may be difficult, but it is possible. Is that what you need to do? Do it now, before you slide any further down sin's slippery slope toward destruction.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 36 and Ezra 1-2.
