God's Punishment is Perfect
God always knows exactly how to punish us when we sin. He never is too harsh or too lenient. His punishment accomplishes His purpose and makes His point to us and to others around us. Uzziah found that out when he decided to break God's laws.(II Chronicles 26:16) It would do us all good to reflect on what happened to him.
Uzziah was a righteous king of Judah, who did God's will. However, when God blessed him, and he became strong, his heart was lifted up in pride. He evidently thought he was above God's law, and it did not apply to him. Therefore, he went into the holy part of the temple to offer incense, which was only for the priests to do. He knew that, but pride blinds us. Therefore, God struck him with leprosy, which lasted the rest of his life. Uzziah could not be around other people, and he could not even go to the regular part of the temple to worship God. See what I mean? God's punishment kept him from ever breaking His law in that way again.
Let's all think about how God has punished us or is punishing us. Sometimes, we get angry with God. That is the wrong response. He loves us, and He is simple trying to get us to love Him and obey Him. Obedience is how we show we love Him. When we disobey, He can't let us go, or we would get farther and farther from Him. He draws us back with His consequences for our sin, and He always does just the right thing to get us to where we ought to be. Then, if we will listen and obey, He will start blessing us again.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 28-31.
