The Life God Blesses
Hezekiah was blessed by God in many ways. He saved him from his enemies. He answered his prayers. He prospered the work of his hands. Why did God do all of that for him? I believe the reason is found in II Kings 18:6. Let's see what it says to us.
He "held fast" to the Lord. Hezekiah loved the Lord, and he knew how valuable He was to him, so he held Him tightly. He did not forget the Lord. He did not neglect to focus on the Lord. He was always in the front of his mind and his thoughts. Think of how we should love our spouse. We are not to love any other person like we love them, and we are never to get far from them in our relationship with them.
He "did not depart from following Him." Think of following someone in a car. What do you have to do? You have to go wherever they go by following them in every turn. If you depart from following them, they will lose you. It means to diligently follow the Lord.
He "kept His commandments." He did not pick out some to keep and others to reject. He obeyed all of them completely. It is possible, but we have to be determined to live in God's way, instead of doing things our way. His commands are not hard to understand. We just have to order our lives by them each day.
When a person lives like that, God will bless him. God will be pleased to pour out His blessings, knowing he will stay faithful to Him all the way.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 22-24.
