Holy Ambition

Holy ambition is a good thing. We should want to be all that God desires for us, and for that to happen, we have to have a holy ambition to accomplish God's will. Elisha had that type of holy ambition when he asked for a double portion of Elijah's spirit to be upon him.(II Kings 2:9) Is that the desire of your heart every day?

Sometimes, we are inspired to be more like Jesus by another believer. When we see God working in his or her life, it shows us what is possible. Then, we aspire to be like that person, and thus we become more like Jesus, too. I believe we should not stop at being like our mentor or teacher, but we should desire to be even more like Jesus than they are. We should want  a double portion of their spirit, their heart for God and desire to serve him. This is a holy ambition. It is not prideful. We want to be even more humble and more useful to God, and we want more of His power to show in our lives.

Please don't think that humility means that you can't aspire to do great things. Don't think badly of yourself. Yes, we are all weak, but every believer can and should progress to be more and more like Jesus. Having holy ambition will help in the process. Let's do it, and see what God does in our lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 5-7.
