Whatever You Do
There is a way to know what to do in every circumstance of life. I know it may sound simplistic, but it is not. It is possible, though. Whatever we do, whether it is what we say or what we do, we can do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus with a thankful heart, and what we do will be the right thing.(Colossians 3:17) Please, let me explain.
What is in a name? The character of a person is wrapped up in their name. When we hear the name of a person, our mind is filled with thoughts of what we have heard that person say, and what we know that person has done. Then, if we do something in their name, we are doing something they would do. It is in line with their character, so that if anyone knew them, they would know they would endorse our words or actions.
Therefore, when the Apostle Paul was inspired to write Colossians 3:17, he was not giving us a quick fix for everything we say and do. We can't just say we are acting "in Jesus' name." What he was saying is that we must know Christ, His character, His words, and His actions by trusting Him as our Lord and knowing the Bible, so that whatever we do or say, He would endorse. When others see us and hear us speak, they should know we are acting in line with His character. They should see our thankfulness of heart.
So whatever you do, have a true relationship with Christ. Whatever you do, know His Word, the Bible. Then, whatever you say or do, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. I believe that covers it, don't you?
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Thessalonians 1-3.
