Overcoming Satan
This section of the book of Revelation focuses on a terrible time in the future when the earth will be in great tribulation. Satan will not be allowed to have any access to heaven, so he will know the time is short before he is cast into the Lake of Fire forever, He will fight hard, using a man called the Antichrist and his assistant, the False Prophet. For 3 1/2 years they will have their way to wage war on all of the believers on the earth, except that God will protect the Jewish people who will turn to Christ. During this time many people will die, but those who know Christ will overcome Satan.(Revelation 12:10,11) We can do the same things to overcome him now.
We overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus. The only way to have our sins forgiven is by having the blood of Christ applied to our sins, as the payment for them to be cleansed once and for all. That happens when we turn to Him as Lord and Savior of our lives, the One who died for us and rose gain to defeat Satan, sin, death, and Hell. Once the blood is applied, and we become a child of God, we are secure in Christ forever. If we die physically, we go to be with the Lord in Heaven.
We overcome by the word of our testimony. Once we put our trust in Christ, as Lord and Savior, we tell others that He is Lord of all, and He is our Lord. Satan can't do anything about our testimony. Every time we share it, we tell Him he is a defeated foe, because Christ died to set people free from his dominion.
Finally, we overcome Satan when we are not afraid to die physically. We do not love our lives here. We love the Lord and we look forward to Heaven. Satan can't stop a person who loves the Lord fully, so that death is not a deterrent to doing God's will. It is only a door to Heaven. Satan hates it when we live with reckless abandon by trusting what Christ tells us to do no matter what.
I pray that each of us knows how to overcome Satan each day. There is no reason to live in defeat, because Jesus has overcome him. The world conditions can't change our relationship with Christ and our power of Satan.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Revelation 14-16.
