The Origin of Evil in this World
As we remember the evil done to so many innocent people on September 11, 2001, it is very fitting for us to consider the origin of evil in this world. God did not create evil. He created everything perfectly, even Lucifer, the covering Cherub angel, who was stationed to serve God around His throne. However, evil entered this world when Lucifer allowed pride in his heart because of his splendor and jealousy over all of the angels worshiping God instead of him, to lead him to rebel against God.(Ezekiel 28:15,16) He "traded" or led the other angels to buy into worshiping him instead of God, and one third of them accepted his offer. They were cast out of heaven down to this earth, where they continued the war against God that is still with us today. Lucifer, who is now Satan, is the one who caused the attack on the World Trade Center buildings and the Pentagon. He and his demons are our enemies, not the people who decide to follow him instead of God. Any of them can be redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, if they will turn from their evil ways, and put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, who died to defeat the power of sin, death, and Satan.
These truths are given to us as a lamentation to the "king" of Tyre, because the prince of Tyre was sinful for the same reasons as Lucifer, so God used him as an example first, before showing the real origin of evil. When we combine this passage with the passage in Isaiah 14, we can see what happened in heaven and why we have evil in this world now. We can see that we do not fight against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual wickedness in the universe.(Ephesians 6:11-18) Therefore, our weapons have to be spiritual weapons first and foremost.(II Corinthians 10:3-6) We can't defeat evil with missiles and bombs, we can only protect ourselves and our country from evil men. The evil men will keep coming until their hearts are changed by the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 31-33.
