Accountability for What We Hear

Many people come to hear the Word of the Lord spoken. Few people end up doing what they have heard. Why is that? God holds us accountable for the truth we hear from His prophets and from His Word. It is never enough to simply hear God's Word spoken. We must always be intentional about doing it, too.(Ezekiel 33:31) Let's consider the reason for this failure.

It is easy to say that we love the Lord and His Word. However, do we love Him, if we do not obey Him? The Bible says that if we love Him, we will keep His commandments, we will obey what He tells us. Many people fail to do what they hear, because their hearts are set on pursuing their own gain. That is another way of saying they do what they want and what they think they need to do first, so that they never get around to doing God's will. This is a serious condition that must be corrected.

If your spouse said he or she loved you, but they never did what you asked, what would you conclude? Is it real love? It is not love at all. Love puts the other person before our own wants and needs. The same is true with God. If we hear Him and do not obey Him, we can't say that we love Him, because we are putting our gain ahead of Him.

Let's take some time to reflect and to make sure that our love for the Lord is more than lip service. Love that has no action is not love.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 34-37.
