A Sign Between God and Us
When God made the universe He set aside the Sabbath day for rest and worship. He did this for our good, and He made it a sign or a symbol for us. It shows He is Lord, because He created everything.(Ezekiel 20:20) When we hallow the Sabbath, making it a holy day set apart to God, we fulfill that sign, showing He is the Lord of our lives. If we don't, we are saying, we are the Lord of our lives, and we can do whatever we want.
As Christians, we observe the Sabbath on the first day of the week, Sunday, because Jesus rose from the dead on Sunday. He fundamentally changed things from the Old Covenant, starting a new covenant with all people who would put their trust in Him as Lord. We are His new creation through His blood. Therefore, today we set aside Sunday as a sign that Jesus is Lord of our lives.
When we hallow Sunday, Jesus blesses us. Please, don't misunderstand what I am saying. I am not talking about going to a worship service for an hour or so on Sunday. The Bible says it is a holy day, set apart for the Lord Jesus, so that we keep our focus on Him. If we fail to set it apart from the other days, our lives are much poorer, and we miss many of God's blessings.
I know what I am saying is controversial these days. However, it is not what I am saying, it is what the Ten Commandments say. It what the Lord says is a sign between Him and us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 22-24.
