No Root, No Fruit
Many Biblical word pictures are based upon agricultural truths. God's universe operates on His principles across the board, so we can learn from all of His creation. He wants all of us to have deep roots, so we can bear much fruit. That was true in Hezekiah's time and today.(Isaiah 37:31) Let's consider this truth today.
If a plant is moved around often, so that the roots do not grow strong in the soil that provides the nutrients, there will not be any fruit. It takes stability and consistency of growth to produce good fruit. That is true for us, as believers. We must put our roots down deep into God's Word and His principles for living. He puts a premium on consistency in prayer, in meditating on His Word, in sharing the truth with others, as we build relationships. If we are shallow in our relationship with Him, and if we are always jumping around in what we do in life, there will be no fruit for the Lord and His kingdom.
Also, we need to consider our fruit. People must trust us, before we bear much fruit. They must see our roots in the church, in the community, and in the Lord, so that we have credibility with them. Then, when we share the truth, they listen. If we do not have deep roots, it will show. People will see how shallow we are. They will not listen to what we say, so we will not bear fruit. God is looking for fruit. If we are blessed by God, there will be spiritual fruit.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 39-41.
