Drinking from THE FOUNTAIN or Broken Cisterns
Each day people look to someone or something for fulfillment and satisfaction in life. There is only one source that brings continual refreshment and joy. The Lord is The Fountain of living waters from which every believer may draw each day for strength and peace. Unfortunately, many believers seek satisfaction from other sources instead of the Lord, so that their lives are empty.(Jeremiah 2:13) Often, they are baffled as to why things are not going well for them. The answer is in the source of their spiritual water.
Each day we can spend time with the Lord and receive fresh water for life that is alive and flowing into our souls in an abundant supply. He is right there with us, eager to supply our needs and to bless us abundantly. All it takes is faith in Him, which means depending on Him for what we need. He is THE FOUNTAIN which never runs dry. Faith is going to the Fountain. It is living by His commands and by a relationship with Him that is real and personal. Even if we are saved, we need this every day, or we will run dry in our spiritual lives.
Many look to broken cisterns. A cistern is a water tank that collects rain water. The water is not flowing but stagnant. It is not fresh but stale. The cistern itself has a crack in it, so the water it does have leaks out, so that it runs dry at times. These other sources are totally unreliable and incapable of meeting our needs in the way the Lord meets them. Some of those broken cisterns are people, money, fame, work, pleasures, and addictions. They may seem to quench our thirst for a while, so we decide to turn to them instead of the Lord, but we never find satisfaction from the broken cisterns of life.
Choose THE FOUNTAIN today and every day, instead of drinking from the broken cisterns. Find the abundant life that comes from knowing Christ and walking with Him every day.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 3-6.
