Reflections on God's Goodness and Mercy
Psalm 136 is a list of God's actions for which the Israelites were called on to express their thankfulness. Psalm 136:1 sets the stage for the reflections, and then, the psalmist reminds us of God's works in their history that brought them to where they were then. I believe we all need to do the same thing from time to time.
Think of the huge events in your life when God showed His goodness and mercy to you personally. Think of how your life would be different if He had not intervened on your behalf. Then, spend some time thanking Him. Sunday is a very good time to do this, because it is our day to focus on the Lord in worship and resting from our normal activities of life. It is the day of the week that reminds us that we can't make it without Him.
I pray that each of us will have a wonderful time of corporate worship and a very meaningful time of personal worship, as we remember God's goodness and mercy and thank Him for all He has done for us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 139-141.
