Happiness is .....
How would you complete this statement? What is happiness to you? The answer to that question matters, because if you are searching for happiness in the wrong places, you will never find it. Solomon found it, and he was inspired by God to let us know where to find it.(Proverbs 3:13) That is why the book of Proverbs is included in the Bible. It clearly tells all of us how to reach the best life we can have in this world. It comes through having wisdom and understanding, which only come from the Lord.
How do we find wisdom and gain understanding? Solomon puts it in a nutshell in Proverbs 3:5-12. Trust the Lord completely, not only for salvation but for everything. Do not try to live by your own understanding. Fear the Lord and depart from any kind of evil or sin. Honor the Lord with your possessions as an act of worship and trust in Him. Do not despise the correction of the Lord, because He corrects the ones He loves, so we can learn His wisdom and understanding.
Then, once we know Him by grace through faith in Jesus, we can find His wisdom and understanding by walking with Him each day. The results are amazing. Look at Proverbs 3:14-18. The happiness you receive will be far greater than money or other riches. God will add days and honor to your life, as well as the riches He desires for you. Your life will be filled with pleasantness and peace, not because everything will be perfect, but because God can give us joy and peace, even in the midst of the trials of life.
I encourage each of us to read Proverbs for all of its wisdom and understanding. See if you are living the way it says to live or not. Trust the Lord by deciding to do whatever it says. See if the promise of Proverbs 3:13 is true. You will find God's promises are always true, and you will find happiness.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 5-8.
