Mornings with the Lord
Part of the purpose of this blog is to encourage each of us to have a daily time with the Lord, preferably in the morning before we start our daily activities. I call it an "unhurried time." I got the name from hearing Henry Blackaby. I firmly believe that it must not be a rushed time of quick reading and a short prayer. It must be a time to meet with the Lord in which we focus on Him, even if it is not very long. I believe David had this conviction, as well.(Psalm 143:8) He knew what was important for us every morning.
We need to hear from the Lord, not just talk to Him. We need the assurance that He loves us, and He is faithful. That is His lovingkindness toward us. We need to declare our trust or our faith in Him anew every morning. After all, what good is faith if we do not exercise it every day. We need to get marching orders from Him as to what we should do that day. He has a plan for each of us daily. To accomplish this we lift up our soul to Him, asking Him to touch our minds, our wills, and our emotions, so that we can accomplish His will in His power.
That is why I call Psalm 143:8 the perfect unhurried time verse. It is a complete guide to how we should approach God in prayer and in reading His Word every morning. Memorize it or write it on a card that you can put in an obvious place until it becomes a holy habit. It will change your life for the better.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 145-147.
