O God, Search Me and Lead Me
Walking with the Lord is a two step process, at least. We must keep the sin out of our lives, and we must follow His will, doing the right things instead. If we try to live in sin and walk with God, it is impossible. That is why David ended Psalm 139 the way he did.(Psalm 139:23,24)
It is very difficult for us to be objective about our own sin. We tend to justify our actions and ignore obvious sins. Therefore, we must open our hearts to God's search light, asking Him to convict us of sins. Then, when we see them clearly, we confess them completely, and He cleanses us fully.(I John 1:9)
Then, we are a clean vessel for the Lord to fill with His Spirit and direct in His everlasting way. Again, we can't understand His ways. They are beyond us, so we have to receive His Word and His voice to show us the way to go. Without prayer and meditation on the Word of God we can't consistently follow His leading.
I pray that we will make David's prayer our own. After all, it is a prayer he was inspired by God to record for us, so it is definitely praying according to God's will. If we pray this prayer in faith, we know God will answer it.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 142-144.
