Truth is Fallen in the Street
Isaiah lived in a desperate time for the country of Judah. We live in a very similar time for America. Sin had so taken over the mind-set and worldview of the people that truth was rejected, and this resulted in chaos in society.(Isaiah 59:14,15) Isaiah was calling for God's people to realize the situation and to step forward to show others the real truth of God the way he was doing. Jesus calls on us to do the same thing today.
When sin reigns in society, justice is turned back. There is no real justice. In other words, people do not do the right things to be fair and just toward other people, whether it is in private dealings or in the courts of law. Righteousness stands afar off. People do not see other people acting in righteousness toward God and others, they only see unrighteousness before them in the media and in life. Equity can't even enter. The situation makes it almost impossible for the right thing to be done. Everything is skewed against equity. In fact, it comes to the point where people who decide to live in truth and righteousness are a prey to others and to the society. They are injured because they live in God's way. See what I mean. Isaiah perfectly described what we are seeing today in America.
Jesus spoke of this in Matthew 5 when He delivered the Sermon on the Mount. He called for us, as believers to be the "salt of the earth and the light of the world." Salt preserves and brings hunger. We are to stand up for the truth, so it is not lost, even if we are persecuted. The light shows up things. We are to bring out the truth for all to see clearly. Then, Jesus also said we were to be like "leaven" or yeast in another passage. Leaven is usually a symbol of sin, because sin spreads to infect those around it. However, as believers with the power of the Holy Spirit in us, we have the power to infect those around us with righteousness by what we do and say. Again though, we will be persecuted because of the state of our country.
Jesus gave His all for us, so everyone could come to know Him, as the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He was persecuted to the max. Now, it is time for us to stand up and to raise up truth in the streets, so that it can be lifted for all to see.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 61-63.
