The Words of God

Our world is inundated with words. Words come at us from all directions, orally and visually, since we have so many ways to transmit words. Our lives are directly effected by which words we accept and which ones we reject. No one can prosper who rejects the words of God.(Psalm 107:11,12)

We listen to the news, our friends, our family. Often, we base our lives on what they say to us. However, why do we not listen to God's words even more than the words of man and of this world? Why do we allow the other words to crowd out God's words or to cause us to doubt God's words? We all must come to grips with that question, because the answer will determine how our lives turn out.

If we reject God's words, there is none who can help us. That includes being ignorant of them. We have every type of access to God's words through the Internet, digital versions, and written versions of the Bible. If we are choosing to pursue other words, instead of God's words, we are rebelling against His words, and we are despising His counsel.

I realize this is a sober post this morning, but I see so many lives that are falling apart. The basis for their problems is rejection of the clear revelation of God's words about the salvation that comes through Jesus or the commands and principles of God for their lives. Everything they are experiencing can be traced back to one or both of these things. I pray that we will see what we have and treasure it. We have the words of the Almighty and All-loving God, who created the universe recorded in 66 books by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Those words show us all we need to know for eternal life and the abundant life. When we neglect to listen, we have no excuse, and we have no remedy for our problems.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 110-112.
