Leanness of Soul
It is very possible for the Lord to give you the material blessings for which you pray, and then, for you to experience leanness of your soul.(Psalm 106:15) In fact, God could send the leanness at the same time as granting your requests. It is His loving way to prompt you in the right direction, away from the material things in life.
I knew a family years ago that thought they needed more money, so the wife prayed for a job. She received the job, and she made good money. However, it took her and her family away from church because of her work schedule, and because she was tired after work. Before the job, they were all growing in the Lord and very happy. After God granted her request for the job, they experienced leanness of soul. Their spiritual life wasted away.
Getting the material things in life is not worth it when it has to come at the expense of our relationship with God. This is not necessary. We can have both, but we must be willing to pursue the Lord's will, and He will supply all of our needs. He will not always give us our wants, but we will have plenty, and our souls will be fat, instead of lean and wasting away.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 107-109.
