Stop Harming Yourself
We have enough afflictions in our lives without harming ourselves. The Lord is so good to point out to us in the Bible the ways we bring harm to ourselves so we can stop doing those things and concentrate on doing the things that build us up. I want to write about one of those today.
Psalm 37:8 says, "Do not fret - it only causes harm." God knows what He is talking about. Worrying or fretting is damaging to us. There is no point to it, because it doesn't bring good results, either. We need to eliminate it from our lives by God's power.
I have heard people say, "I can't stop worrying." Well, I don't believe that for a minute. God would not command us to do something that is impossible. If He says stop, we can do it, if we look to Him and change our way of thinking. Instead of spending our time harming ourselves, we are to spend time praying about everything.(Philippians 4:6,7) Then, we have a good result. We have the peace of God. Also, if you need something else to fill your time that you were worrying, just delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.(Psalm 37:4) That is pretty positive, isn't it?
God is looking out for each of us. Let's listen to what He says in Psalm 37. Read it and pick up even more reasons not to fret. He is so good, and He doesn't want us to harm ourselves.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 38-40.
