Missing a Special Blessing
God has a special blessing for those who consider the poor and how to help them.(Psalm 41:1-3) It is obvious that many Americans are missing this blessing, because in their busy, self-absorbed lifestyles they only think of themselves or the needs of their immediate families. I believe this breaks God's heart. God has a heart for the poor and hurting, and He wants us to have the same heart for them.
When we consider the poor, God promises to deliver us in our time of trouble. He looks out for us, as we have looked out for others who could not help themselves. Also, the Lord promises to keep us alive and to bless us with our earthly needs, as well as not delivering us to our enemies. Finally, God promises to bless those who consider the poor by strengthening us when we are sick. I think this gives us a clear picture of God's compassion for the poor and for those who choose to reach out to them.
God promises to bless the poor, as they trust Him and cry out to Him. He will exalt the humble. He will provide for the widow and the orphan. God will fight for the underdog. However, the point of these verses and so many other passages in the Bible is that God wants us to be a part of blessing the poor. He wants us to be His hands, feet, and voice to them, and if we will do that, He will give us a special blessing.
You may not know anyone who is poor at this point in your life. You may think you don't have enough money and time to help anyone. I urge you to stop and consider the poor. Ask God to show you who to help and what to do. Then, simply be obedient. God will show you, because He cares. Let's care, too.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 44-47.
