Getting Out of the Horrible Pit

David is inspired by the Holy Spirit to give us a word picture that communicates the effects of sin in our lives.(Psalm 40:2) When we sin, we slip into a horrible pit full of miry clay. It is dark and slimy. The walls are slick, and there is no possible way for us to get out by ourselves. We are doomed to die in that horrible pit unless someone helps us. The only one who can lift us out of the miry clay of sin is the Lord, Himself. He not only lifts us up out of the pit, he cleans us off completely, and he sets our feet upon a rock, so that there is no slipping when we try to move ahead. We are delivered from the darkness. We are in His light, so that we can see where to go to stay away from the pit of sin and stay on the rock. This applies to us before we know the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Savior, but it also applies to us once we come to know Him. Anyone can fall into the pit of sin, and God is the only one who can deliver them. I pray that if you are in the pit today, you will cry out to God as David did in repentance and faith, so God can lift you out and give you a new song in your heart. No one should live in the pit. God wants to set your feet on the rock of Jesus, but you have to decide to trust Him. If you already know Him, and you are in the pit, it is up to you to confess your sin and repent, so He can lift you out and restore the relationship you should have with Him.(I John 1:9) Please, don't stay in the pit. Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 41-43.
