David's Leadership
David was a great king. He went through a lot of trials before assuming the throne. He was finally anointed by the people to be their king, years after he was anointed by Samuel. Through it all he had a group of mighty men who had surrounded him and protected him from King Saul. I think these men were an indication of David's leadership qualities.
We get a glimpse into how the men felt about David, when Amasai gave his proclamation in I Chronicles 12:18. The mighty men were loyal to David, and they were working to bring peace for him and for the people, because the Lord was with David. It was obvious that God was on His side, so that drew other men to come beside him and help him reach his goals.
This is true of any godly leader. It is not so much personality that compels people to follow them. It is the presence and power of God in their lives. That is the kind of leaders we need today in our churches and in our country.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 14-16.
