The Miry Clay of Life

Do you ever get bogged down? It happens for numerous reasons. Your life seems to hit a huge snag, so that it is like being in a pit of miry clay. It is easy to get discouraged and even want to give up. I believe the Devil is good at leading us to the miry clay of life.

We can get mired in debt. The bills pile up faster than the money comes in. We work harder, but we keep getting more behind. We can feel like it is hopeless and the only way out is bankruptcy. However, even in bankruptcy our lives are put on hold for years.

We can get mired in sickness. There are many chronic diseases which could plague us for years, and some get worse and worse. It is a difficult way to live. A person can get bogged down and only think about their disease and nothing else. That is no way to live.

Of course, sin is a huge factor that brings people into the miry clay of life. Just like the stories in the news of the US Representative sending revealing pictures of himself and engaging in other activities. How does that happen to an intelligent person? It begins one sin at a time, and it grows until we are virtually trapped in a lifestyle of sin.

The solution to the miry clay of life is crying out to the Lord.(Psalm 40:1-3) God can and will look down upon us when He hears our cries. Then, He will reach down and take us out of the miry clay, and put us on the rock. He will give us a new song in our hearts, and we will praise Him. Then, others will see how we have been delivered from the mire, and they will turn to the Lord. It doesn't mean He will heal us every time or miraculously pay all of the bills. We may even have to take some time to overcome the sin that has beset our lives. However, our lives will be freed from the bondage, and we will be able to dance in the midst of our situation. The abundant life is walking with God through whatever comes and having His freedom from the miry clay of life.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 42-44.
