Volunteering For Service
This evening I attended the Volunteer Appreciation banquet for the Pregnancy Resource Center of Henry County, since I am on the board. It was a beautiful evening, and it was a fitting tribute to our volunteers at the PRC. It is absolutely true that the center could not operate without our volunteers, so they are the backbone of the ministry of saving lives and saving souls.
As I was thinking about that theme, the Lord spoke to my heart. The truth is that Christians are by nature volunteers. We do not do what we do for money. We do it for the love of Jesus and His kingdom. We can't work our way to Heaven, so if that is what we have in mind, we have totally missed the point of everything. Jesus was the Ultimate Volunteer, when He agreed to come and die for us on the cross. He did it out of love, and so should we. We ought to strive to be like Him in our service.
Then, it dawned on me that the reason the Kingdom of God is not expanding as it should, is a lack of volunteers. Without the service of volunteers the work of the Kingdom does not get done. All of us "Career" ministers could never hope to reach a world for Jesus without all of the other believers serving with us. Just like the PRC can't operate without volunteers, neither can the church or the kingdom. I pray that we will understand that we are all God's volunteers in His service, and we are living in the shadow of the Ultimate Volunteer, who is Jesus.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 1-3.
March 5 – Matthew 5:13
Ask God to show you how to be the salt of the earth to those around you, so that you preserve the truth of His Word and cause people to be thirsty for Him.
