Watching and Serving

This morning our men had a great discussion of how we need to be ready to serve the Lord in any way at any time of the day or night. That is a quality of character that Jesus chooses to bless. In fact, we found out from Luke 12:37 that when we serve Him that way, He seeks to serve us in return. What a Lord and Savior!

The truth is that Jesus is Lord, and we are His servants. Yes, we are friends, too, but we must never minimize His lordship over us. If we are eager to hear Him, so that we are watching and waiting for His directions, we bring joy to His heart. He sees our willing spirit. He will use us, and we will receive the blessing of being a part of His work.

The problem is that we are so absorbed in our own schedules that we miss His voice, or we delay our obedience. That is a terrible error. When Jesus calls on us to act, He knows it is the right time. Therefore, if we delay or totally disobey, we miss the right window of opportunity to do His will. That amounts to disobedience no matter how we look at it.

Let's be watching and ready to serve. When Jesus says, "Jump." Let's reply, "How high?", not, "Wait a minute, I have something more important to do right now." We will be amazed at His favor when we have the total heart of a servant, who is ready to please the Master at any time.

Tomorrow, I intend to read John 8-10.
