Showing We Care

Our church wants to show the people in our community that we care for them. We are trying to do things that will not be gimmicks just to get our foot in the door. We really want to show the love of Jesus to the people around us.

Today, we had our monthly Operation Care, in which we go door to door to pray for people and to give free Bibles to people who don't have a Bible. It is always a great time of touching lives. Yes, there are folks who are leery of us, but there are a good number who appreciate our prayers, and who take a Bible.

We visited one man who asked sincerely for prayer for his mother-in-law who had a stroke recently, and she is in a rehab. You could see the thankfulness in his eyes, and feel the sincerity in his voice and his handshake, as we prayed with him on the porch in the cold weather. Another young couple had just moved into the house, and they were impressed by our visit. We will never know what the Lord is able to do by these simple caring visits. Hopefully, we are changing the image of Christians.

Then, I went to visit a man who wants to die, even though he is probably not a believer. He would not talk with me today. I spoke to his wife, and I tried to comfort her. What a stressful time for her and her young daughter, as they see their loved one depressed and not willing to receive any medical care. He may or may not die soon, but I am going to keep trying to share the hope that comes from Jesus Christ before it is too late.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Acts 4-6.
