Unity and Evangelism
Many times the people in the world around us who do not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior aren't buying what we are selling, because they do not see unity among believers. They see power struggles and back biting. They see division and disagreements. None of these things are evidence of the Divine. Even those who don't know the Lord know that.
The facts are simple. Those who know the Lord are in the same family. We have the same Father. We have the same Lord Jesus who saved us. We all have the Holy Spirit living in us to guide us to all truth. We have the perfect Word of God to nourish us. Unity should be a given. Jesus prayed for it in John 17, and verse 21 tells us that our unity will show the world the reality of the gospel.
Why is there so little unity? There is too much ego and fleshly thinking. We are motivated by the ways of the world and not the things of the Lord. We have our own goals, instead of God's goals. There is competition, not cooperation. All in the name of carrying out the Great Commission and building the church. We can't build the church, though. Jesus is the only One who can do that.(Matthew 16:18)
I pray that we would listen to what Jesus said in John 17 and strive for unity so that we could see multitudes come to Jesus and the church of Jesus built up in the right way. Wouldn't that be glorious?
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 16-19.
