One Thing or Many Things
This morning our men completed our study of Luke 10. We had a meaningful discussion of what Jesus said to Martha. The application of this truth is important for all of us.
Martha was the servant. Her service was good, but it caused her to be "worried and troubled." She was thinking about many things, instead of spending time with Jesus. Her anxiety led her to be upset with her sister, Mary, who was sitting at the feet of Jesus. She wanted Jesus to tell Mary to help her do the many things. However, Jesus would not do that. He commended Mary for choosing the one thing that is needed. Jesus was not against service, but He was against service that led to anxiety and forgetting about Him.
There are so many believers who serve the Lord like Martha. They are doing many things for Jesus, but they leave off the one good thing, which is spending time with Him and growing closer to Him each day. We need to hear what Jesus said to Martha and apply it to our lives. After all, without Him we can do nothing.(John 15:5) If we miss the one thing, we can't do the many things in the way He would have us to. I pray that we will always make sure that we do the one thing first, and then, we let Jesus lead us to do the many things with joy and no anxiety.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 3-5.
