The Promise of God

This afternoon we heard Dr. Jerry Rankin, the President of the International Mission Board for the second time this week. He is always an inspiring speaker, because of his spiritual depth. I thought that he did a great job of laying out the truth for us.

He made a connection between the Israelites in the Old Testament and the church of today. In Numbers 13 the spies made their report of the Promised Land, and the people followed the 10 spies who said that victory was impossible. Then, God had to send them to the wilderness for 40 years. What was the problem? They did not believe God would empower them to defeat the people of Canaan. They did not trust God. Now, God has told us to go to the world with the Gospel, but we have not gone for the same reason. We do not believe He can empower us to overcome the obstacles. It is the same unbelief.

We need to repent of this sin, and we need to tell God that we do believe in His plan. Then, we need to put feet to our faith. If we don't do anything, we really don't have faith at all. It is just good intentions. We have to get out of our comfort zone and trust the Lord to be with us as we go in His name.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 12-14.
