Two More Baptisms
It was a great privilege to be able to baptize two young men this morning. It was a blessing to see them come to Christ and to confess Him as Lord before all of the folks in our worship service. To the casual observer they may have seemed to be similar, but nothing could be farther from the truth. The only thing they had in common up to this point was that they had trusted Christ as Lord of their lives.
One of the boys was from a model home. His parents are Christians, and they take him to church each Sunday. They both work in AWANA, and take him and his sister on Wednesday evenings. They love him so much, and they constantly pray for him and tell him about the Lord Jesus and His Word. He came to know Christ through the testimony and teaching of loving parents.
The other young man does not really have a mother or a father in his life. Both have virtually abandoned him. He is being cared for by a lady who is not related to him. He does not have a secure home-life. His mother and father have not taught him about Jesus. He came to Christ one Monday evening when two men from our church went to visit in the home in which he was living, and they led him to confess Christ as his Lord. Thankfully, he has been able to come to church some because of loving friends.
See what I mean. How much more different could they be? However, I have good news. Now, they are brothers in Christ, and they are children of God. Now, if they trust the Lord Jesus, follow the Word as they let the Spirit lead them, they can be great men of God in a dark world. They can have the abundant life equally well, because God is not a respecter of persons. He looks at the heart, and He longs for these two boys to thrive. I hope you will join me in praying for them, and in reaching out to the many around us who need Jesus.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 132-134 and I Corinthians 11:17-34.
