A Power Surge
This morning we had an even dozen men at 5 AM to discuss Luke 5:12-16 where Jesus heals a man "full of leprosy." We had an insightful discussion to which I think every man present made a contribution. As I say so often, these guys are a blessing to me.
Luke, the physician, tells us that this man had serious leprosy. He came to Jesus for healing, which shows he already had a measure of faith in Him. However, it was even greater than that. He knew that God could do whatever He pleased, so He phrased his request to Jesus in just the right manner. He said, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." This shows He counted Jesus as God, and it shows that He knew he should only ask God God's will to be done. Jesus responded to His faith, and He was healed immediately. Thus, there was a power surge. The power of God surged through his body to make him completely clean from the leprosy. What a miracle! He went from lacking fingers, toes, a nose, and some of his fingers to being totally normal in an instant.
Since the people realized that only God could heal leprosy, this was a sign that Jesus was God to everyone around. The man was sent to the priest as required in the Old Testament. The multitudes gathered to hear Jesus and to be healed. The clincher is in verse 16. It tells us how Jesus had the power. He was constantly withdrawing, so that He could pray to the Father for direction and power. The same key holds true for us, as believers, today. If we want the multitudes to be attracted to Jesus, we must spend time alone with Him for an infusion of His power and insight into His direction for us. God has all power, but He only gives it to people whom He can trust to use it rightly.
I pray that we would spend time alone with Jesus, so we can have a power surge in our day and time.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 135-136 and I Corinthians 12.
