The Ultimate Profit
There are a lot of people who are worried about their retirement accounts and about their future right now, because of the economy. There is a lot of talk about profit or the lack of it. Profit is an interesting concept. As I understand it, profit is the reward a person or a company gets for their labor or their product. It is very fulfilling to do such a good job or to make such a good product that you receive a large profit. However, is profit really as important as people think it is? Don't get me wrong; I am a capitalist. I am not talking about socialism or communism. What I am talking about is the worth of material profit. If a person made a billion dollars, is that person secure forever? Does that insure happiness? Will that person be healthy all of his life and live 100 years, because of the profit?
On the other hand, what does it profit a person to know Jesus? There is eternal security. There is a peace that is beyond understanding or explaining. There are blessings from God that are real and lasting. No matter how much money a person has, if they have Jesus, they have everything that is of eternal value. That is real profit, but you can't work for it. It is a gift. It is free. It comes by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. That is what I told the folks at the funeral service today, and that is what I am telling you. I pray that each of you will find that ultimate profit in life, which is eternal and wonderful.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 20-21 and James 5.
