Spiritual Insurance
It was a joy for me to get to speak to our NHA students in chapel again this morning. Most Thursdays I have that privilege. It is so wonderful to see the faces of the children as they soak up the truths from God's Word. Today, I explained to them how we can know that when we die Jesus will take us to heaven.
The obvious answer is that the Bible makes that promise to those to trust Christ as Lord and Savior. If the Bible says it, it is true, and we can be assured it will happen. The children were quick with that answer. I wanted to focus on another assurance since it is Easter week. The resurrection of Jesus is our spiritual insurance that we will go to heaven when we die. I Corinthians 15:20 tells us that Jesus has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. The ones referred to as being asleep here are believers who have died. Jesus is the firstfruits, because He was the first person ever physically resurrected who never died again. Therefore, He proved that God could and would do the same for us who believe in Jesus. That is great insurance to me.
Someone might ask how we know Christ really rose from the dead. Well, the Bible says it, but besides that there is a powerful evidence that is irrefutable. The existence of the church today is that proof. If the apostles were not convinced that they had seen Jesus die and come back to life, they never would have testified to that historical event and allowed themselves to be martyred for Christ. All of them were willing to die for Him, because they knew Jesus rose from the dead. There is no other explanation for the church than that Jesus is truly Lord. I hope you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, and that you realize God wants you to have this spiritual insurance of your eternal life in heaven.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 7-9 and Luke 1:21-38.
