Why God Will Not Hear
There are things that promote unity between people, and there are things that bring separation. Unity is a huge blessing. The things that bring people together are the things of the Lord. They are righteous actions and attitudes. The things that bring separation are from Satan and his forces, to divide and conquer us. Those things are sinful actions and attitudes.
Isaiah was very blunt to his people about their relationship with God. (Isaiah 59:2) He told them that their iniquities had separated them from their God, and their sins had hidden His face from them, so that He would not hear. Now, that is a description of a serious condition for us, as believers, and we need to consider what God inspired Isaiah to say to us.
If we have unconfessed sin in our lives, we are separated from our God. We are believers, we are saved from our sins, but we are separated from our God. Our sins have made us so abhorrent to God that we are like people in filthy clothes who haven't bathed in a month. We want to come into God's presence, but because of the stench God keeps us at arm's length. Our close fellowship with God is broken until we confess those sins, and we are cleansed to enter. (I John 1:9)
When we are living in sin and having unconfessed sins in our lives, God can't stand to look on us. God hates sin. He isn't going to look on it, so He turns His face away from us. When we talk with Him, it is not that He can't hear us, but it is that He "will not" hear. He is ignoring our pleas as long as we are ignoring His Spirit Who is convicting us of our sins, but we are not listening to Him. The only solution is to sincerely confess our sins, repent, and then we can return to full fellowship with our God.
