On Him
My best friend growing up was Jim Lingerfelt. He was a very stout young man, so he played football at Avondale High School. During one practice, Jim tore the ligament in his knee, and he could not walk. One of the other players picked Jim up and carried him on his back up the stadium steps to the locker room. I was amazed that one person could take all of that weight upon him and carry Jim to get the help he needed. All of his weight was on him.
That is what the Bible says Jesus did for us, except that it wasn't our weight in pounds that was placed on Jesus. It was the weight of all of our sins, and the sins of all mankind. (Isaiah 53:6) Isaiah declared, "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." That one verse should cause all of us to thank Jesus for His great love for us, and to put our trust in Him, the One who died for all of our sins, so we can be forgiven all of them.
Jesus never sinned, not once. He never knew the guilt of giving in to temptation and committing a sin. He never failed to do the right thing and committed a sin of omission. He was perfectly righteous and clean. Yes, He was God, but He was also 100% man, except that He never sinned. That made Him the Only Person who could shed His blood and die for our sins, so they would be paid for and could be forgiven. He did that for us out of pure love.
As Jesus hung on the Roman cross, God looked down at His sinless Son, and He looked at all of us sinful sheep who had gone our own way, and He laid on Jesus all of our inequities, all of our sins. For the first time Jesus felt the guilt of sin, the pain of sin, and anger of God against sin. He felt it for every sin that was every committed and every will be committed. Can you imagine the weight that was placed on Him? I can't imagine what Jesus went through, But I am so thankful He bore my sins, so I could trust Him and be forgiven for all of my sins. I pray that we all will realize this and trust Jesus today, if you have never done that.
