Ruling Over Sin

We are tempted to sin in many ways all of the time. We have to be on guard constantly, or we will be overcome by sin and its effects on our lives. Believe me, Satan and his forces will do whatever it takes to lead us down the road to committing all kinds of sins. If we let them have their way, our lives will be miserable, and things will just get worse and worse.

God came to Adam's son, Cain, when he was upset with his brother Abel. He showed him what he needed to understand and to do so that he could not let his anger turn into sin. (Genesis 4:7) God showed Cain that he would be accepted if he did well, but if he did not do well, sin was lying at his door. He explained that sin's desire was to control him, but he had to decide to rule over it. We all need to heed this warning and follow God's instruction.

All of us must realize that there is right and wrong. We have the choice to do well and to do what is right. However, we will have a lot of things that will happen, and we will be tempted to go the wrong way in our lives. Our first decision is that we must decide to do well. That means we have to do what God says is right and to stay away from what God says is wrong. This is one reason we read His Word, the Bible. It shows us how to do well and what to avoid.

Our second decision is to rule over sin. The truth here is that either sin will rule over us, or we will rule over sin. There is no middle ground. We have to say no to sin. We have to ask God to give us the power to drive sin away. If we don't rule over sin, then, sin will rule our lives. We will end up being slaves to sin, instead of Jesus being Lord of our lives. Therefore, let's trust Jesus as Lord and Savior and rule over sin, so we can have a blessed life with Him.
