Our Response to God

God does so many good things for us all of the time. I am afraid we get used to His goodness toward us, and we forget to give Him our proper response. Our lack of response is an affront to God. He desires for us to see His love for us and to give Him the honor due His name. He doesn't want this because He is arrogant or proud. He doesn't need our worship to be fulfilled. He wants it for our sake, so we benefit from having a good relationship with Him.

Noah is a great example of a proper response to God. After the flood was over and the waters subsided, he immediately did the right thing. (Genesis 8:20) Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal, and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. Noah worshiped God out of a sincere heart of gratitude to God for what He had done.

The Bible doesn't say that Noah's family was with him as he worshiped the Lord, so he could have been by himself, at least part of the time. I pray that we all have learned how to worship the Lord by ourselves on a daily basis. We need to give God all of our thanks and praise every day. We must not wait until Sunday or some special occasion to respond to God's goodness. This is part of a healthy relationship with God.

Then, on the Lord's Day we should gather with our brothers and sisters in Christ to worship our Lord from sincere hearts. That corporate worship magnifies our response to the Lord as we sing and pray together. God is glorified, and we are lifted up by going into His presence with others to give Him thanks and praise like Noah did right after the flood. Now our burnt offerings are the fruit of our lips, our songs and prayers are our offerings to Him.
